Mentoring program

OnePeople HR runs a Mentoring Program aimed specifically at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff. The Mentoring Program opens up opportunities for the participant through the development of a career plan that helps the individual to grow both personally and professionally.

The program also includes tailored training to assist with skills and knowledge development, so that participants can become role models for others. The program is available to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff.

Aims of The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mentoring Program are to:

  • retain more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff who work for our clients
  • increase the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff in senior positions
  • strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff’s skills, knowledge, and relationships
  • provide a tool to assist and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff to cope with the numerous and unique challenges of their job
  • support individual goal setting and career advancement.

The Aboriginal Mentoring Program is a voluntary and is divided into four key areas:

  • Family and community
  • Friend in the workplace
  • Coaching for success
  • Sponsoring the future.


It should be recognised and understood that each of these aspects of the Mentoring Program are not exclusive to each other or a staged process but an integrated and supportive framework through which OnePeople HR continues to support and encourage not only our client’s employees but the broader community to engage with them as well.
